A three year old girl, Hailey Rodriguez from New York was accidently pricked by contaminated needles on the floor at the Monteflore Medical Pavilion in the Bronx. Her mother heard screaming and crying from the examination room and her mother asked what happened, she lifted up her dress, her stomach and hand were bleeding. She pointed to the bin that was on the floor and the top wasn’t securely on, the opening where needles are placed was broken, which was filled with uncapped. Hailey is at risk for HIV infection and hepatitis and she is taking a drug cocktail for preventative treatment that takes six months to find the prognosis.
I think it’s terrible that little girl has to go through that kind of treatment because someone must have not been paying attention. I wonder how she even got a hold of the sharps container on the floor and why was she left alone at the clinic? But I hope the little girl gets better and will not have HIV after the treatments are finished.
This was a VERY difficult article to read, without becoming totally infuriated...with EVERYBODY involved!!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all...sorry Mom...but I can't FATHOM leaving my three-year-old alone ANYWHERE, but CERTAINLY not in a CLINIC?!!! Are you kidding me?!
Then we have to examine the lack of safety surrounding the disposal of these sharps to begin with; why were they not properly secured?
There is SUCH an epidemic of irresponsibility at play...I trust there is an equal amount of accountability! So far...it sounds like only poor little Hailey is paying the price!
